> Where are you from?
This is not such an easy question – I was born in Cookeville, TN, raised in Louisville, KY, started dancing in Philadelphia, PA, and now I live in New York!
> What year did you start breakin?
I started breaking late 2007 / early 2008.
> Why did you start breakin?
I saw some guys dancing outside on the street one night and they invited me to come to one of their classes…so I did! And that’s how it all started. To be honest, at the time, I had been out of gymnastics for about a year or so and I was itching to be upside down again – breaking turned out to be the best excuse I could have asked for!
> What is your greatest achievement in breakin?
My greatest achievement so far is getting to a level where I can be an inspiration to other dancers in the scene. I never envisioned myself becoming such a person but apparently it has happened without me knowing it! Recently, I’ve had a few people tell me that I am one of their bgirl inspirations. To know that I can inspire people and share an experience/culture that I love so much is a really great feeling. 🙂
> What is your favorite breakin event?
My favorite breaking event, thus far, would have to be Unlucky Breaks. Note: this was my favorite event BEFORE I joined (or even thought about joining) Floor Obsession. This event is special in that it turns what could be a very typical / aggressive bboy competition into a lighthearted event that can be appreciated by (almost) everyone.
> What do you do when you are not dancing?
Work, make matcha smoothies, read sci/fantasy books, shop online – the usual stuff.
> What is your favorite food?
Good food. I usually lean towards healthy(er) food options but that doesn’t mean I don’t love the occasional fried oreo…
> If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Everywhere! Starting with Japan…
